Abstract: Klaus Ottmann attempts a postmodern reevaluation of the notion of genius by focusing on the disruption of the ordinary, by artists and writers, that cannot be explained solely in geographical, cultural, or formal terms. The "genius decision" is defined as an active-passive activity of the postmodern artist who, in his or her inability to represent the nonrepresentable is engaged in an activity of failure.
