DECONSTRUCTION: Should metaphysics be deconstructed? (3 Credits)

Pierre Aubenque, Ph.D.

Description: This course exams the conflict between metaphysics and deconstruction. Looking at the ability for self criticism within the metaphysical view of the self, questions of freedom within the self seen through a metaphysical lens to question its own construction. Looking at Plato as a heavy meta-physician who then Aristotle rejected, and Immanuel Kant furthered this rejection, but within metaphysics possibilities is this self-criticism. Arguing that it is not necessarily always a contest between deconstruction and metaphysics, or that deconstructions only job is not the destruction of metaphysics. Pierre argues that metaphysics itself carries the tradition of deconstruction within its own tradition.
