Musical globalization in the age of media. Schmidt describes the globalizing and diversifying tastes of music consumers from the early 20th century to the present. The lecture is divided into three sections: World Music and Crossover, a historical recounting of recording from Phonograph to Sampling, and the relation between the exoticism of sounds and the synthesis of sound collages.
