David Lynch is an American filmmaker with European sensibilities, famous for his cinema of absurdity full of psychogenic fugues and travelogues from everyday Hell. Trained as a painter at Corcoran School of Art (Washington), he went on to study at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (Philadelphia), and the American Film Institute (Los Angeles). His feature debut film "Eraserhead" (1977) is a nightmarish meditation on family life. His "Elephant Man" (1982) received a Cesar, "Wild at Heart" (1990) the Palm d'Or in Cannes, and the TV series "Twin Peaks" (1990) changed the aesthetics of this medium. Lynch also designed soundscapes and furniture, and his paintings and photographs have been exhibitioned internationally. Other films: Blue Velvet (1986), Zelly and Me (1988), Lost Highway (1997), Straight Story (1999), Mulholland Drive (2000).
