A pair of artist Tracey Emin's slippers have been auctioned for £5,500.
The embroidered slippers went under the hammer at the UK's largest modern art fair, Art2001. The cash will help the South London Gallery, which supports upcoming artists.
The slippers, decorated by Emin herself, were among a number of lots of personal artefacts belonging to leading British artists. More than £33,000 was raised for the gallery by the auction, BBC Online reports.
The gallery's head of publicity Katharine Burton said: "We are overjoyed at the results as we really had no idea how things would go. Tracey attended the auction and was brilliant. She egged the audience on and generally helped up the bids."
A plate donated by Tim Noble and Sue Webster raised £2,700, while Peter Blake's paint brushes went for £600.
Emin's slippers were bought by one of the 100 galleries exhibiting at Art
2001.
