SINS OF THE NEW MILLENNIUM

Text from the Sins of the Next Millennium Registration Table located beside booth confessional...

"Sins of the Next Millennium"

The forthcoming millennium will resound with conflict resulting from diminishing resources and increasing disparity. The disequilibrium of our biosphere requires that we change our patterns of behavior. "Sins of the Next Millennium" identifies those qualities, those personal and institutional standards, which fundamentally jeopardize our well being; which result in the transgression of human and planetary rights. "Sins of the Next Millennium" suggests a measure of wrongfulness relevant to the profound interdependency of living forms. It is my desire to emphasize the difference between feeling and action and to highlight the moment existing between. Melding the religious confessional with the political voting booth establishes sin as a secular entity: advocating critical reflection, thoughtful anticipation, and willful participation. With each act we are granted the opportunity to think anew, to be observant, circumspect, socially and geopolitically clairvoyant. The booth represents the union of personal expression and communally significant action. The two way mirrors establish a constant state of being seen, of seeing and of self-seeing. Between habit and gesture we are revealed. The intimacy of solitary acts are rendered available to witnessing if only just barely. Alone in this hybrid space there is both solace and accountability -- essential to individual and community security and safety. The integrity of our own authority is an inescapable obligation.

i cannot make the synthesis that would be a presumption. i cannot provide a cannon nor insist on a common vision. i appeal to your senses not your instincts: convenience binds. self-interest is not your only motivation. really, there isn't choice.

I urge you to venture into the booth. This is an invitation to resist the insecurity of our forthcoming/now-already dilemma.
