Postmodern hunter-gatherer: an introduction of sorts...
Retrieved from junk yards, trash piles, beaches, attics, and roadsides, orphaned debris is gathered, saved, absorbed over time. Fragile things in need are safeguarded. Stray parts, rescued from a certain fate, are realigned displacing a much assumed criteria of 'useful.' In their wordless, non-acoustic language, conflicting truths emerge. In the space and moments existing between lost and found, objects come together -- a pair of little girl's white dress shoes take root in a plaster garden reliquary; a wrench and pacifier become two sides of a dialectical argument on subject / object relations in which both are "humbled;" a silk teddy hanging from an iron post becomes a repository of a differently forged heroism. In combination, a different reasoning emerges and postures collide. These juxtapostions articulate a n inverted consciousness of place and being, of participation and belonging. Making assemblages is a manual poetic. Manipulating ambiguity and displacement an opportunity is created to use physical relations to suggest and refer across rhetorical specificty. Despite all signs and reasons for quantum insecurity faith, an exhibitionist, exposes herself in alternative positions. conceptual terrorism... disrupt conveniences of thought... realign perceptions and ideological loyalties ... synthesis? that would be a presumption.
